Final-ish Thoughts

For me, no thought is ever final. I like to think this is not me overthinking, but rather, evolving. At the end of the day, this is what makes me human and sets me apart from content generated by machines. Having that edge matters: the ability to know how to use the tool while remaining the expert. This belief became one of my main motivations for pursuing an MA in Technical Communication.

I did not want to feel overwhelmed or swept away by technology. Instead, I wanted to stay one step ahead. Through this programme, I feel I achieved that and more. I learned both the machines and the methodology and melded them together in my pink, squishy brain.

New tech meets old: the vintage 1980s IBM keyboard I use to write every assignment and my dissertation.

To the Future

That brings me to my goals: what I hoped to gain from investing the time and money in a Master’s degree while searching for work. The answer is simple: work. A career. I have been a writer for as long as I can remember, but I have wanted a Master’s degree for even longer. Not as a badge of distinction, but because I genuinely enjoy learning. I take pride in everything I do, especially knowing that my expertise come from hard work and critical thinking.

In the coming weeks or months - however long it takes - I hope to find my perfect fit and truly begin a career in technical writing or e-learning. I am limited to working from home, as I live in a rural area of Ireland with no public transport, but I do not actually see this as a disadvantage. After all, I thrived in the self-paced structure of the MA programme. It showed me that I can achieve great things from my home office, which is a humble little space that I have turned into a productive haven.

Thank You

Most importantly, I want to thank my instructors for their support and feedback. That feedback, in particular, played a critical role in my learning process. With each critique, I improved and will continue to be better than ever before. The original LLM.
