Instructional Podcast: Making AI-Generated Web Content Accessible
Purpose and Project Context
This instructional podcast was developed to provide clear guidance aligned with specific learning outcomes for a defined audience. Written using the principles of Universal Design for Learning, the podcast was recorded and edited with industry‑standard software to ensure clarity, accessibility, and effective delivery.
The purpose of the podcast was to teach listeners how to make AI‑generated content accessible by applying the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0, which are designed to ensure digital content is usable by people with a wide range of disabilities.
Personal Motivation and Ethical Perspective
This project reflects my strong personal interest in accessibility and my skepticism regarding AI’s ability to create inclusive content without human oversight. Because AI systems are trained on existing data rather than active human reasoning, they may reproduce outdated or exclusionary practices. This poses risks for individuals with disabilities, including those with visual, auditory, physical, cognitive, and neurological impairments (W3C, 2008). These concerns shaped both the tone and intent of the podcast.
Transferable Skill: Communication
This project demonstrates communication as a core transferable skill. Effective instructional communication requires more than conveying information: it involves expressing ideas clearly, structuring content purposefully, and anticipating how different audiences will receive and interpret instructions. Translating complex accessibility standards into understandable and actionable guidance required careful attention to language, pacing, and emphasis.
The podcast also highlights communication as a responsibility: information that is not communicated inclusively risks excluding entire groups of users. This project reinforced that communication is central to how knowledge is shared and understood.
Reflection and Learning Outcomes
Researching and creating this podcast increased my awareness of persistent accessibility gaps across digital content, including missing image descriptions, screen‑reader incompatibility, and design choices that prioritize aesthetics over usability. This experience strengthened my ability to evaluate how communication choices directly affect inclusion and reinforced the importance of instructing and informing with all users in mind.
